Written by Tony Warriner, employee number one and co-founder of Revolution Software, with a foreword by Charles Cecil, this epic book tells the untold behind-the-scenes story of this much-loved game developer. The story begins in the mid-1980s when high-school dropout Tony Warriner wrote a game – Obsidian, for the Amstrad CPC – and sent it to Artic Computing, a local game publisher. There he met Charles Cecil, who was looking for cool new games to try and save the now-struggling publisher. The two hit it off, and four years later they – along with Dave Sykes and Noirin Carmody – got back together to found Revolution Software.
Foreword by Charles Cecil Introduction by Martin Mulrooney. This is an uncompromised first edition of the book.

FRB have never done me wrong, so I bought this on spec. I’m familiar with Steel Sky and Broken Sword, and now I’m a grown up I appreciate the work that goes into games. This is weighty, covering all aspects of the production, filled (but not padded) with photos and sketches. Makes me want to boot up SCUMMVM and waste my evenings.
At over 600 pages you could be forgiven for thinking this will take some time to get through however time flies!! The book is written in a fabulous style that really makes you feel immersed in the story. Tony is informative, fun and leads you through so many ups and downs it’s hard to believe. If you only buy one more Retro Computing book in 2023 make it this one!
